James Barron

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Whanganui District area.

Kia ora koutou

I’m 55, married to longtime partner Jonathan and prior to being councillor a systems consultant delivering system change for many councils & large corporates. I bring a diverse outsider/minorities perspective & fresh thinking to the problems facing the oldest form of governance, Local Government.

In my first term I’ve learned how Council works as an organisation while staying firmly grounded in what the people of Whanganui need – investing in key infrastructure and what is uniquely Whanganui, keeping to budget and keeping spending increases low despite the disruptions of Three Waters (which I oppose for real and Whanganui reasons not fear of co-governance) and Covid19/Lockdown (which I took as opportunity to see Council adopt digital working)

Re-elected I’ll continue my focus on business, community, housing, the port, infrastructure esp Transport (eg fixing our buses) and apply my experience to the new challenges of Local Government Reform for Whanganui.
