Vote

Who can vote?

Those eligible to vote are all resident electors and non-resident ratepayer electors whose names appear on the electoral roll when it closes on Friday 12 August 2022.

The preliminary electoral roll will be available for public inspection from Friday 15 July 2022 to Friday 12 August 2022 at council’s customer service centre at 101 Guyton Street.

How does voting work?

Voting packs will be sent out in the mail to all those who have enrolled from Friday 16 September 2022.

The voting period is three weeks (Friday 16 September 2022 to noon Saturday 8 October 2022).

You can post your completed voting documents back to the electoral officer using the orange pre-paid envelope that was sent with your voting document. You can drop the envelope in any NZ Post street receiver until 4 October – find your nearest postbox here.

From Monday 19 September, you can also drop your envelope into one of our Vote Whanganui ballot bins at the following spots around town:
• Council’s Customer Service Centre at 101 Guyton Street
• Gonville Library, 44 Abbot Street
• Davis Library, 1 Pukenamu Drive Pukenamu Queens Park
• Splash Centre, 220 London Street, Springvale
• Four Square Riverview, 59 Anzac Parade
• New World Whanganui, 374 Victoria Avenue
• Countdown, 433 Victoria Avenue
• Trafalgar Square, Taupo Quay

If you aren’t enrolled in time, or you don’t receive voting documents in the post, you’ll need to cast a special vote.

If you need to cast a special vote you can visit the council’s customer service centre at 101 Guyton Street between Friday 16 September 2022 to noon on Saturday 8 October 2022.

To be counted, all completed voting documents must be in the hands of the electoral officer or an electoral official by noon Saturday 8 October 2022.

We’ll let candidates know how they’ll hear if they’re successful prior to Election Day.

Progress results will be announced in the afternoon of Election Day. Final results will be announced in the Whanganui Chronicle and on the council’s website. All results will be accessible on this website.
